In an effort to provide relief amid unprecedented surges in gas prices, Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp has extended the state’s suspension of motor fuel taxes until at least November 29, 2023. The taxes, amounting to 35 cents per gallon for diesel fuel were originally set to expire this week.
As per the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average cost of diesel fuel at Georgia pumps was $4.20 per gallon last week, a decrease from the $4.31 per gallon price earlier in September, whereas the national average for diesel fuel prices surpassed $4.54 per gallon.
The motor fuel taxes in Georgia are paid by fuel distributors and not local gas stations.
