From August 23-29, 2026, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will conduct its annual Brake Safety Week, an initiative that brings increased roadside inspections of commercial vehicles across North America. While the campaign is designed to improve highway safety, it can also have a temporary impact on freight capacity and transit times, making proactive planning especially important for shippers.
During Brake Safety Week, certified inspectors will conduct routine inspections of commercial motor vehicles, identifying brake-related violations that could place trucks out of service until repairs are completed. This year’s initiative also includes a special focus on the condition of brake drums and rotors, with inspectors collecting data on those components as part of the annual campaign.
This increased inspection activity can mean tighter truck capacity in some markets and occasional adjustments to pickup or delivery schedules. While these impacts are typically short-lived, staying ahead of potential disruptions helps keep freight moving efficiently.
